Topaz is a hard, brilliant gem species; its blues are the best known, but it runs from colorless through the coveted imperial oranges. Brazil has been one of the most prolific colored-gemstone sources in the world for a century, and still turns up new material on a regular basis. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
