This 6.44-carat pyrope-almandine garnet is cut as a pear measuring 12.2 x 11.5 x 7.5 mm, with a red body color, sourced from Tanzania.

Most fine red garnet is in truth a blend of two species, pyrope and almandine, and this gemstone sits on that series, taking brightness from the pyrope side and depth from the almandine. Tanzania's gem gravels yield one of the widest spreads of garnet species anywhere, with the saturation East African material is known for. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
