Tourmaline takes a wider range of color than almost any other gem species, because its crystal will accept so many different coloring elements. Brazil has been one of the most prolific colored-gemstone sources in the world for a century, and still turns up new material on a regular basis. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
