This 20.81-carat star sapphire is shaped as a cabochon measuring 16.7 x 13.8 x 7.8 mm, with a black body color, sourced from Thailand.

A star sapphire carries fine silk inclusions that gather light into a star across the dome of the cabochon, a phenomenon gemologists call asterism. Thailand is both a corundum source and the great cutting and finishing hub of the colored gemstone trade. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
