At 20.16 carats, this sphene from Madagascar carries its green color through an emerald cut, measuring 18.6 x 14.1 x 8.5 mm.

Sphene has dispersion higher than diamond, so a well-cut stone throws more fire than almost any other gemstone. Madagascar has produced an unusually wide range of gem species since the mid 1990s. It is entirely untreated; no heat, no enhancement, the color exactly as the earth made it.
