Peridot is the gem form of olivine, colored green by the iron in its own structure, one of the few gems that occurs in a single color. Burma has supplied the gem trade with prized material for centuries, from narrow and irregularly worked deposits. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
