This 1.98-carat star sapphire is shaped as a cabochon measuring 7.7 x 6.5 x 3.8 mm, with a pink body color, sourced from Sri Lanka.

A star sapphire carries fine silk inclusions that gather light into a star across the dome of the cabochon, a phenomenon gemologists call asterism. Sri Lankan sapphire is hand-picked from river gravels worked for two thousand years, and the island's signature is bright, glassy color with high transparency. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
