This 1.24-carat spinel is cut as a round measuring 5.3 x 3.3 mm, with a purple body color, sourced from Sri Lanka.

Spinel is the gemstone long mistaken for ruby in old crown jewels; in its own right it grows as a hard, brilliant, untreated red, pink, or blue. Sri Lanka's gem gravels have been worked continuously for more than two thousand years. It is entirely untreated; no heat, no enhancement, the color exactly as the earth made it.
