This 0.99-carat spinel is cut as a round measuring 4.9 x 3.1 mm, with a purple body color, sourced from Sri Lanka.

Spinel is the gemstone long mistaken for ruby in old crown jewels; in its own right it grows as a hard, brilliant, untreated red, pink, or blue.
