0.31 ct Purple Alexandrite - Cushion

This 0.31-carat alexandrite is cut as a cushion measuring 4.3 x 3.1 x 2.7 mm, with a purple body color, sourced from Madagascar.

Alexandrite is the color-change chrysoberyl, green in daylight and red under lamplight; few gemstones genuinely change hue, and this is the one that defined the effect. Madagascar has produced an unusually wide range of gem species since the mid 1990s. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
