Alexandrite is the color-change chrysoberyl, green in daylight and red under lamplight; few gemstones genuinely change hue, and this is the one that defined the effect. Brazil has been one of the most prolific colored-gemstone sources in the world for a century, and still turns up new material on a regular basis.
