The problem
Commercial stones are cut to weigh the most, not to look the best.
Rough goes to whoever can keep the most carats out of it, because carats are what a price list pays for. What comes back is heavy, a little dull, and shaped to drop into a calibrated setting, because that is exactly what it was cut to do.
We cut for the stone. Sometimes that costs weight to keep the color even, and sometimes it produces a shape no calibrated setting will take. That is not a problem here, because we are designing the piece around it anyway.

The plan
Three steps, and you can stop at any of them.
You do not need to arrive knowing what you want. Most people start by pointing at a color.
One
Choose a stone.
Start in the collection. 3,655 stones are in the case today, across 32 species, so there is room to find the exact green or the exact blue rather than the one the case happened to have. Open the collection.
Two
Tell us what you want.
What you would wear every day, what you would never wear, the metal, the size, the budget. We come back with what is possible and what it will cost, before anything is made. Start a design.
Three
We cut it, and it gets made.
Kag cuts the stone here, in house. The piece is then made in small batches with the independent Thai artisans we have worked with for years. You see the stone before it is set. How that actually works.

If one of the finished pieces is already the one.
There are finished pieces in the case below, made the same way, and they ship now. We make them in small editions rather than production runs, so most of them exist exactly once: 118 of the 137 in the collection today. If one is already the piece, take it. If it is close, it is a good place to start a design from. See what is ready to ship.

What one of one means
Made once, and not made again.
When one sells, it is gone. We do not reorder it, because the stone it was built around was cut once and there is not a second one sitting in a drawer somewhere.
That is true of the finished pieces, and it is the reason a custom piece works at all. The stone is the part that cannot be repeated. Everything we design around it inherits that.
