This 1.13-carat spinel is cut as an oval measuring 6.7 x 5.5 x 4.4 mm, with a violet body color, sourced from Sri Lanka.

Spinel is the gemstone long mistaken for ruby in old crown jewels; in its own right it grows as a hard, brilliant, untreated red, pink, or blue. Sri Lanka's gem gravels have been worked continuously for more than two thousand years. It is wholly untreated, its color finished by geology rather than by any furnace or enhancement.
