GEM:
Ruby
1.6 ct Pear Red 7.1x5.1x3 mm
PROVENANCE:
Mozambique Heating
At 1.6 carats, this ruby from Mozambique carries its red color through a pear cut, measuring 7.1 x 5.1 x 3 mm.
Ruby is the red form of corundum, sapphire's sibling species, and fine examples are among the most valuable colored gemstones per carat. Mozambique's Montepuez district is the most important ruby find of the modern era, and supplies much of today's fine red. Its color was brought up by heat, a legitimate and accepted practice that the trade discloses and we disclose here.
Its exact combination of color, cut, and origin is its own, the kind of center stone you choose on purpose and build a piece around. Hand-selected and filmed by Caveman Gems in good light, shown as honestly as a screen allows.
